Silkhote-Alin

Russia has several UNESCO World Heritage sites. This fact seems to surprise many of our clients here at Taiga Travel. When tourists travel to Russia, they just explore Moscow or St. Petersburg. They might visit some destinations in Siberia, but they don’t really explore this beautiful, unspoiled region of the world. That’s one of the reasons why we encourage our clients to visit Sikhote-Alin. Here you can see a great diversity of landscape, plant life, and wildlife. This region gives you a hint of what you can expect when you travel through the taiga.

Where is it Located?

Sikhote-Alin is a mountain range and spans across Khabarovsk Krais and Primorsky. It extends for about 560 miles from the northeast of Vladivostok. It is home to several tall peaks, including Tordoki Yani, Anik Mountain, and Ko Mountain. We consider it a hiker’s and mountain-climber’s paradise.

What’s Special About Sikhote-Alin?

It’s a very beautiful place to explore and has a diverse landscape. You’ll see lagoon lakes, sea-side cliffs, streams, rivers with rapids, and forests. The terrain has allowed different kinds of plants and animals to thrive here. You can see rare, endangered animals like the Siberian tiger and the Amur ghoral. You can also see spotted deer, roe deer, Himalayan black and brown bears, wild boars, yellow-throated martens, and Far-eastern wild cats.

If you love animals and are fascinated by their behavior in the wild, you definitely need to visit Sikhote-Alin. If you’re lucky, you might be able to see the majestic Siberian tiger in the wild. That’s a memory that you’ll cherish for a lifetime!

Fishing

Fishing is a major pastime in Russia. Many people in this country take regular weekend fishing trips to the various lakes, rivers, and streams that are scattered around Russia. The Sikhote-Alin is almost considered a local secret. There are plenty of delicious fish in the lakes and rivers here, including cherry salmon, char, brown trout and humpback salmon. You can get permits to fish most of them. The ecosystem here is healthy and thriving so you don’t need to be concerned about overfishing. The waters naturally support a healthy fish population.
